At Life InSight, we provide diagnoses and personalized treatment plans to help individuals effectively manage and overcome phobias. Phobias can trigger various physical, mental, and behavioral symptoms when encountering or even thinking about the feared object or situation. Mental symptoms may include intense fear, panic, feelings of immediate danger, and a sense of disconnection from oneself or the surrounding world. Our approach integrates Exposure work, uniquely tailored to address the specific obstacles associated with phobias and related disorders. The most common phobias we treat in children are fear of vomiting (Emetophobia) and fear of dogs (Cynophobia).
Phobias
Phobias are intense and persistent fears that significantly disrupt an individual's life, categorized as a type of anxiety disorder, with specific phobia being the predominant diagnosis. These fears provoke overwhelming anxiety or fear when encountered, even if the individual recognizes the disproportionality of their reaction when not directly facing the phobia. The diversity of phobias is vast, impacting individuals uniquely. Experts classify these fears into five primary categories: Animals (i.e. dogs), Natural environment (i.e. water), Blood, medical procedures or injuries (i.e. needles), Situations (i.e. enclosed spaces), and Other (i.e. vomiting).
Treatment
Utilizing Exposure Therapy, we guide individuals through a step-by-step process to confront their fears within a secure and controlled environment. Exposure work exposes individuals to their fears directly while providing skills to cope with stressors. As part of the treatment, we will collaborate with the individual at their residence or other appropriate setting to facilitate the treatment and resolution of these phobias.
